Summer Enrichment: Lego Land

This week we went beyond the instruction booklet with Legos.  We worked with Lego challenge cards, completed Lego Quest challenges, and practiced giving/listening to directions while building with a partner.  We also explored the Binary alphabet that is used for coding.  Students practiced writing their name in code, and played the Lego Bits and Bricks coding games online.  We even created our own coding game boards with Legos.  To finish up the week, we built balloon powered cars, and bridges that would support 1 kg of weight for at least a minute.

Summer Enrichment: Fairy Tale Fun

This week we investigated everything related to fairies and fairy tales.  We made fairy wands, pretzel rod wands, fairy dough, flower fairy pictures, and even fairy gardens!  We also read a few stories, and solved some problems with engineering.  We built houses for the 3 little pigs that would withstand the big bad wolf (or my hair dryer!), we made elevators to help Rapunzel out of her tower, and we made castles for Cinderella to live happily ever after.  We also made new chairs for baby bear since Goldilocks broke his.  The kids did a great job creating structures with a few household materials.

Summer Enrichment: American Girl DIY

I had a great time on Monday teaching a summer enrichment class where we made some classroom supplies for American Girl dolls.  We made desks, chalkboards, pencils, clipboards, and even a duct tape dress for our dolls.  It was a busy day, but we had a blast!  Thank you to everyone who attended!
